Wolfgang Wölfer Zurück
Wolfgang Wölfer was born in Eisenstadt/ Austria in December, 1971, where he received tuition in the violin from the age of seven at the Joseph Haydn Conservatory.  He continued his studies at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in 1985 (concert subject violin under Prof. M. Frischenschlager and Prof. R. Küchl)
In 1989 he gained First Prize at the National String Competition "Jugend Musiziert"
Tuition in the viola under Prof. A. and J. Staar from 1993.
In 1995 he became the only viola student of the legendary Prof. Zakhar Bron in Lübeck.
He played in Vienna's Philharmonic Orchestra and in the Orchestra of Vienna's State Opera from 1993 to 1999. In 1997 he was a finalist at the auditions for principal viola in Vienna's Philharmonic Orchestra.
From 1999 to 2003 he lived in  Japan where he taught the concert subject viola at the Tokyo College of Music and at the Tokushima Bunri University.
He performed as a soloist at the Wiener Musikverein, the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Brucknerhaus Linz, the Kyoto Concert Hall among others. He was invited as a guest principal violist by many orchestras in Japan.
His musical partners include renowned musicians such as Bruno Giuranna, Zakhar Bron, Natasha Korsakova, Manrico Padovani, Melina and Orfeo Mandozzi, Birgit Kolar, Akira Wakabayashi, Keiko and Asako Urushihara, Tomoko Kato, Mie Kobayashi, Joji Hattori, B. Khadem-Missagh and others.
He recorded four CDs . His recording of the Brahms' viola sonatas was hailed by critics and became a bestseller in Japan. ("Discography")
Wolfgang Wölfer plays a viola made by Federico Goldnagl in Vienna, 1995. He is endorsement artist at the string company Thomastik-Infeld and uses the "Vision Solo" strings as well as the "Melos viola dark" rosin.
From September, 2012, he will be the head of a viola concert subject class at the Joseph Haydn Conservatory in Eisenstadt.
