After finishing her studies at the Conservatoire National de Region of Nantes, Marie-Bernadette Charrier went on to complete her advanced studies in the saxophone class of Jean-Marie Londeix at the Bordeaux Conservatoire. Here she obtained unanimous 1st prize and the Medal of Honour of Bordeaux in saxophone, chamber music and academic subjects. A highly distinguished teacher, she is currently professor at the Conservatoire of Bordeaux where she teaches both saxophone and contemporary music interpretation, a class that she created in 1993. She gives regular masterclasses in Spain. She has been invited as professor in the Hochschule of Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg, Francfurt, Münster, Hanover and in the Universities of Melbourne, Sydney and Hobart.
Her concert activities are mainly situated around today's music and she is both artistic director and regular soloist with contemporary ensemble Proxima Centauri, having performed in various festivals in France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Australia.
She has played with the Orchestre du Théâtre de Nantes, the Orchestre Philharmonique des Pays de Loire, the Ensemble International de Saxophones, the Ensemble Musique Nouvelle, the Orchestre du Grand théâtre de Bordeaux and the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine.
More than thirty compositions have been written especially for and dedicated to Marie-Bernadette Charrier and she has released seven CD's.
