Prof. Spyros Gikontis studied violin with Genc Bogdo, Piro Gjezi, and in the Music Academy of Tirana with Pandush Gjezi. He has participated in numerous concerts as a soloist and as a member of chamber music
ensembles in Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Germany, Poland, France, Austria (Arnold Schoenberg Center), England (Yorkshire Baroque Soloists), USA and Tayland. He has recorded for the Greek classical radio as well as for many CDs. His artistic activities include perfomances as well as recordings -many of which debuts- of works by Greek composers. He has been a
founder of the Ionian Camerata and a founder member of the Ionian Piano Quartet, the trio Koryfo, the Mib Quintet Astor Piazzola and the Ionian Early Music Ensemble.As a visiting professor he has given classes and concerts in the USA (Bowling Green State University, Toledo, William and Mary College in Virginia, and Boston University). He is also giving master classes at the Summer Academy of the Ionian University and at the International Music Days of Brache in Germany. He is currently an assistant professor (tenure) in violin and chamber music at the Music Department of the Ionian University, Greece.
