Vitalba Mosca Zurück
Vitalba Mosca, mezzo-soprano, received her degree in piano and voice from il Centro di Avviamento al Teatro Lirico at the Teatro Massimo of Palermo where she debuted at 19 in the world premiere performance of Don Perlimplin by Vittorio Rieti, and where she later performed in Manfred  by Byron/Schumann with the actor Carmelo Bene and in La favola del figlio cambiato of G.F.Malipiero.
In 1982, as winner of the Battistini Competition of Rieti and the AS.LI.CO. of Milan, she was invited to participate in the Biennale di Musica of Venice in the opera

Flaminio by Pergolesi. She completed her studies at the Teatro alla Scala
Young Artist Program in Milan and here she studied with very important mezzo-soprano Giulietta Simionato. In 1988, Mosca was a finalist at the
Pavarotti Opera Competition in Philadelphia. She studied vocal technique with Prof. Mario Antonietti.

Ms. Mosca, received the Master’s degree in Art Song Interpretation in Florence. Ms. Mosca’s career has taken her to many theatres throughout Italy, the San Carloof Naples (The Rape of Lucrezia by Britten, Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni, la Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini), the Teatro dell'Opera of Rome (Giulio Cesare by Haendel), the Carlo Felice of Genova (Rigoletto by Verdi), the La Scala (Tannhauser by Wagner, Talgor by Luciani), the Teatro Comunale of Florence (La canzone di Fortunio by Offenbach), in addition to being a soloist with such conductors as P. Bellugi, R. Chailly, G. Kuhn, D. Oren, N. Santi, D. Nazareth, R. Gandolfi, G. Ferro.

 She has participated in many festivals, including the International Festival of Marlia, where she sang Cherubino in Nozze di Figaro by Mozart, il Cantiere of Montepulciano where she was Fidalma in Matrimonio Segreto by Cimarosa, and the Festival della Valle d'Istria of Martina Franca in the complete edition of Bellini’s Sonnambula, as well as the first modern premiere of Amor vuol sofferenza by Leonardo Leo. Mosca's concert tours have taken her through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Holland and Belgium, in Aida, Nabucco, Rigoletto, Magic Flute, and Carmen.

 In 1996, she made her debut in Saint Matthew's Passion by J.S. Bach at the Oratorio S. Margherita in Venice and later that year in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Berlin Philharmonic. In that same year, she obtained the role of Meg in Verdi's Falstaff in Berne, alongside Bernd Weikl. In 1997, she participated in the Festival of San Gimignano in the Messa di requiem by G. Verdi. In 1998, Mosca appeared again in the Festival of San Gimignano with the music of Mahler, Kindertotenlieder and Lieder Eines Fahrenden Gesellen, in Rigoletto, and in the Petit Messe Solenelle by Rossini. In 1999 she was Amneris in Aida, under the direction of Romano Gandolfi, in Medesano.

Performances in 2000 include Falstaff by Verdi and Wagnerian operas (Waltraute in Gotterdammerung) at the Tiroler Festspiele in Erl under the direction of Maestro Gustav Kuhn. In the first half of 2001, Mosca participated in various performances of Verdi's Messa da requiem, including performances in Beijing with the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro dell'Opera, again at the Radio of Bucharest, in Oslo under the direction of Maestro Nello Santi, with the Orchestra and Chorus of the Philharmonic, and at the Teatro Regio in Turin, director Marco Balderi.

Mosca was an excellent Edwige in Guglielmo Tell by G. Rossini at the festival of Avenches in 2002 and interpreted with great success the role of Azucena in Trovatore by G. Verdi in Dresden for the inauguration of the Dresden Philharmonic 2002 under the direction of Nello Santi.  Having coached with Irwin Cage, Ms. Mosca has performed widely in concerts. She has recorded: Rigoletto for Decca (with Pavarotti and Nucci), Amor vuol sofferenza and La Sonnambula for Nuova Era, and unprinted works by Boccherini and Gloria of Cilea (with Fiorenza Cedolins) on the  Kicco Classic label. In the past, Prof. Mosca is currently a member of the voice faculty of the State Conservatory “ Giovanni Battista Martini “ of Bologna.
